New York Times review of the Skywalk -- "The Hualapai are leading Wild West spectacle tours, while the Park Service is guardian of the ancient earth." 5/19/07
You can't take cameras out onto the Skywalk, and Carol and I weren't real excited about going out on it.
David77 has some great Skywalk photos posted on panoramio.com and Google Earth. They were apparantly taken in early April, 2007 when it opened. Here is a display of David77's work:
Our trip included one night in Boulder City, NV and a visit to Hoover Dam, two nights at the Thunderbird Lodge at Grand Canyon, two nights in Sedona, and two nights in Las Vegas. Here is a map of the area visited. Click on the map and go to the map web page where the red dots indicate the location of geotagged photographs. On the web page, click on a red dot to see pictures taken in that area. The photos will be small. Click on the photo to see a larger version. You can see an even larger picture by clicking on the "view photo page" link in the lower right corner of that screen.
Hoover Dam looking East
We experienced the whole spectrum of weather conditions one could expect . On Monday April 23, the first full day at the Canyon it was 28 degrees and snowing. But there is never a bad picture day at the Canyon.
Tuesday was bright sunshine and the day we went to Grand Canyon West. Temperature at the Rim was in the high 60s--temperature down on the river in the high 80s. A 20+ degree temperature differential between the Rim and the Colorado River, 3,000 feet below.
Then it was on to Sedona!
And the last night of the trip, Carol's Birthday, with Barry Manilow's show, "Music and Passion" at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Testing
the use of a pullquote. The style sheet contains the info for formating
the pullquote. The code used to enter the pullquote is:
<blockquote class="pullquoteright">Text of quote here</blockquote>
Here are two other forms of code that will be described later.
<blockquote class="pullquoteleft">Text of quote here</blockquote>
<blockquote>Text of quote here</blockquote>
This is a pullquoteright. Edit the format of the pullquote in the Manila style sheet.
The code is entered in the html section
of the Manila WYSIWYG edit box. There are three forms of the quote.
Pullquote left, pullquote right and one that is centered on the page
without any text wrap around.
This is a pullquoteleft. Edit the format of the pullquote in the Manila style sheet.
Here
is some sample text to fill up the rest of this entry to demonstrate
the effect of the pull quote. xx xxxx xxx xxxxxx xx xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxx
xx xxx xxxx xxxxxx xx xxx xx xxxx xxx xxxxxx xx xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxx xx
xxx xxxx xxxxxx xx xxx xx xxxx xxx xxxxxx xx xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxx xx xxx
xxxx xxxxxx xx xxx xx xxxx xxx xxxxxx xx xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxx xx xxx xxxx

xxxxxx xx xxx xx xxxx xxx xxxxxx xx xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxx xx xxx xxxx
xxxxxx xx xxx xx xxxx xxx xxxxxx xx xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxx xx xxx xxxx
xxxxxx xx xxx. end of sample text
This is a blockquote. Edit the format of the pullquote in the Manila style sheet.

Posting Pictures--There are several ways to do
this.
Here, html code
is used with links to the Flickr files.
The second way was used in the
previous entry about skiing in Vail. There a Manila Macro was used that
includes a "shortcut"
to the photos stored in the weblog Pictures file.
In this case the pictures are downloaded to the computer pictures file
and then uploaded to the weblog pictures
file. This automatically
generates a "shortcut". One advantage in doing this is that the
pictures can be easily included in other weblog entries using a
"shortcut". Therefore you don't need to use html code. The
html code is here, as well as an explination of how to use the "shortcut" method. - goto

I am fascinated with how the Web is changing the way we work and communicate.
I'm listening to Dave Winer conduct a podcast of a meeting he had with a group of people from the Greensboro, N.C. News-Record . The paper incorporates citizen journalist blogs as a regular feature of its daily publication. Today the New York Times did an article, Why Newspapers are Betting on Audience Participation, on their program that explains their program in more detail.
These links give an excellent example of how weblog and podcasting technology can be used in our daily lives. As I am writing this I am listening to Dave's podcast. I'm, for all practical purposes, attending the meeting he had in North Carolina last night. Wow!! I continue to get excited about the power of the Internet.

This is an example of how Manila,
the software use to write this weblog, and most other blogging programs
work with to facilitate posting pictures to a
weblog. This is a picture of my son Kip and his wife Koren and their
daughter and son Devin and Drew.

Well, I've made this weblog public. I am using it to chronicle my weblog
journey. My thoughts, ideas, observations, comments...whatever comes to
mind about weblogging and how it can be used. - goto
